Isensix & Security
Security is essential and Isensix takes it seriously. Our customers are laboratories, hospitals, blood banks and more who need to make sure they are protecting the information that their systems are privy to. Christopher Martine is Isensix’s IT/Network Administrator, focusing on both customer and employee coverage and security. He highlights some of our security measures.
What are some of the security measures that Isensix has in place for Guardian?
Guardian has a sophisticated firewall that detects and automatically blocks DDoS attacks and other repeat vulnerability attacks. Additionally, all of our user information is encrypted.
Another security measure relates to logins, which automatically block a user after a few failed attempts and then prompts with a ReCAPTCHA to ensure you are a human.
For authenticated users, we have deeper security within the system, including the ability to provide different levels of access for each zone. For example, if you are a hospital with eight different labs, then the master administrator can configure the system so that only certain users have access to certain labs or zones. Additionally, there is a hierarchy of user capabilities such as limiting someone to viewer access only. You can create new roles which allow for a high degree of customization to match the specific needs of an organization in a secure way.
What are some “global” security measures that Isensix uses company-wide?
We ensure that all software and operating systems are kept up to date and have firewalls on our local servers and networks. Employees only have access to what they need access to and we keep all customer data separate to ensure it can’t be combined.
Isensix has a proprietary system that monitors the health of all the servers in the field and automatically opens support tickets if there is an issue.
What can customers do to make sure that their devices & systems remain secure (as it relates to Isensix products)?
Most of these won’t be a surprise, but please do the following:
- Follow all of Isensix’s firewall rule guidelines
- Don’t open anything up to the Internet except what Isensix deems necessary
- Many times, customers like to put our systems on their own VLAN. This isn’t always necessary, but it does help limit access to servers and can help eliminate some potential (small) issues.
- Make sure your password isn’t too easy and please don’t store it on a sticky note that is stuck to your computer.
- Use a password manager to help you remember longer and complex passwords
- Don’t share your password
We continue to work on future security updates (such as two-factor authentication) as we are constantly working to improve.
